Fishing Regulations
- Fishing By PERMIT ONLY.
There are two types of permits:
ANNUAL PERMITS- Blue Card
- Valid Date of Purchase for one year
- Cost $25.00 per person
- Each person must have their own permit
- Senior Citizens (over 65 & over) may receive a free annual permit
- Annual Permit includes FREE BOAT LAUNCH
DAILY PERMITS
- Comes with the envelope
- Valid for one day only
- Purchased from staff members or use drop box (Honor System)
- Cost is $2.00 per person per day
- Each person must have their own permit
- Daily permits do not include boat launch fee
- No Senior Citizen discount on daily permits
- Boat Launch Fee – $2.00.
- Children under 12 years of age can fish without a Permit but must be accompanied by a PERMITTED ADULT.
- Employees of the City of Sylacauga (full-time) can receive an annual permit for FREE.
- Lake Howard is closed on MONDAYS.
- Gate will be open at sunrise. Gate will be locked 1/2 hour after sunset.
- Fishing Permits must be presented to the State Conservation Officer or Lake Howard Recreational Authority, Inc representative.
- There will be a “NO WAKE SPEED ONLY” (State Conservation Officer exempt).
- Fish limits and safety regulations established by the State will be vigorously enforced.
- No fishing will be allowed thirty minutes before sunrise or thirty minutes after sunset.
- The following activities are positively prohibited on the Lake or surrounding property:
- NO SWIMMING OR SKIING
- NO ALCOHOLIC BEVERAGES
- NO HUNTING OR FIREARMS
- NO PARKING IN BOAT RAMP AREA
- NO SEADOOS
- NO ATVs ALLOWED ON LAKE PROPERTY
- Trash containers are provided at ramp areas. All cans, bottles, paper, and other trash are to be deposited in these containers.
- A Fishing Committee will be patrolling the Lake daily to assure regulations are not violated
- The failure of fisherman to comply with the above rules will result in the Lake Howard Recreational Authority, Inc. revoking his/her permit.
- Fishing season may be closed at any time at the direction of the Lake Howard Recreational Authority.
- Special Events must have written approval from the Lake Howard Recreational Authority, Inc.
- Boat storage fee of $100 maximum annually.

Sylaward Trail at Lake Howard

A fourteen plus mile bike and hiking trail winds through the Talladega National Forest with multiple loops for long and short walks and bike rides.
The trail is a somewhat level surface with enough hills to make it interesting. The views and wildlife opportunities are numerous.
You can’t believe you are just outside the city limits of Sylacauga.
