There are many ways to define success. The most controversial one is the one that states the role of luck in it.
Do you believe that there is some role of luck in people’s success or do you think that it is just a perception that is given more priority by some people?
Is success dependent on your luck or is it your hard work that makes things happen?
We are going to get some mind-boggling answers to these questions and by the end of this article, you will have some insight into what success is and how it is relevant in your life.
So, let’s get started with the basic definition of success as known to the majority of people in the world.
Success is defined as the state of achieving some predetermined goals set by an individual or team over a period of time. When you talk about being successful, there are many things that lie underneath that statement. For some people, success is getting that corner office. For others, it is climbing up the corporate ladder. For many, it is just reaching a desired financial status. Whatever be the case and whichever category you find yourself in, you can certainly agree that there are things that make you successful in life.
Now, the thing that I’m referring to here may be luck or hard work. Or, it could be both. So, how can it be said that success is just dependent on one factor and not the other?
As a matter of fact, success is the end result of your hard work and some bit of luck. You can observe how you have been lucky to be in this world right now. There are many things that can make you feel lucky. I wasn’t a believer of luck a few months back. I used to think that a person gets what he or she desires only through hard work. That was before I met this man who won 500$ million in the popular American show “Wheel of Fortune”.
For those of you who do not know what “Wheel of Fortune is, it is an American TV show where the contestants solve word puzzles to win cash prizes. Alex was one of the winners in the last season of the show. When asked about this secret of winning the game, he said that he used to practice Wheel of Fortune thing 2 words like crazy. He would play this game with his friends and family every day and it was impossible to beat him in the Wheel of Fortune thing 2 words category. However, he also said that he got lucky. He credited his efforts while also making it clear that he had some good luck working in his favor.
This small talk with Alex changed my perception of luck. A few days later, I got lucky to win a brand new car in a sweepstake. That was my confirmation. By this time, I was totally convinced that luck does exist and it does work in our favor if we let it.
